Marc ASH est né le 30 novembre 1958 à
Oran. Il vit et travaille à Paris, mais sillonne le monde afin de
présenter son œuvre et maintenir un dialogue permanent avec les
collectionneurs et les professionnels de l’art.
Diplômé d’un DESS en marketing stratégique il entame une carrière
internationale en 1978 à Londres et rejoint par la suite un groupe
pétrolier brésilien.
Ses déplacements en Mauritanie et en Asie s’avèrent déterminants quant à
sa créativité. Dés lors, il arpente sans relâche le territoire
imaginaire de son enfance, les espaces et les éléments.
En 1998, il abandonne définitivement blazer et cravate, et se consacre
exclusivement à la peinture et à l’oxydation des métaux qu’il intègre
dans ses créations.
En octobre 2000, le Salon d’Automne est couvert par France 2. La
critique le remarque. Sa peinture est filmée et présentée au journal
télévisé.
En novembre 2000, il expose à Beyrouth. NBC TV, ORBIT TV & FUTUR TV
couvrent l’exposition considérée comme l’évènement culturel de la
rentrée.
En juin 2001, la Galleria Blu de Milan lui organise sa première
exposition personnelle en Italie. La Galeria Blu expose Basquiat, Burri,
Fontana, Kandinsky, Klein, Kupka, Santomaso.
Marc fait son entrée dans les plus importantes collections italiennes.
Durant la Biennale de Venise 2001, il présente une importante collection
tableaux au cours d’une exposition personnelle dans un palais qui fût
jadis l’école des Arts de Venise. Cette exposition est organisée par la
W.E.A. qui édite pour l’occasion un catalogue. La critique d’art Silvia
Evangelisti voit en lui le chef de file des jeunes « néo-matiéristes ».
En novembre 2001, il présente une série de peintures récentes à la
galerie Bertin-Toublanc à Paris.
En février 2002 la galerie Bertin-Toublanc de Paris l’accroche à Art
Strasbourg.
La galleria Blu le présente dans les principales foires internationales
d’art contemporain en Europe.
Durant toute l’année 2002 Marc ASH travaille
sur la conception d’une installation se rapportant à l’intolérance. Elle
s’intitule « Tous ensemble » Plus de 50 œuvres sont crées peintures,
photos, sculptures, installations.
Cette « œuvre » est une narration qui rend hommage à l’ensemble des
peuples victimes des régimes totalitaires. C’est également un outil
pédagogique qui invite les enfants à appréhender l’histoire à travers un
langage artistique.
En janvier 2003, le Musée du Palazzo Réale de Milan expose une partie de
son projet. L’accueil de la presse, de la critique et du public est
unanime.
Au cours d’une conférence de presse où il présente son travail, Il est
publiquement félicité par Mr Albertini, maire de Milan, ainsi que par
les autorités culturelles françaises et italiennes lesquels soulignent
l’importance de cette œuvre. Marc Ash est le premier artiste peintre
vivant présenté au Palazzo Réale.
En juin 2003, toute la collection est présentée à Venise dans le circuit
de la 50 ième biennale. Le critique d’art et journaliste Enzo Di Martino
en est le curateur.
L’exposition est accueillie dans l’enceinte de la prestigieuse Scuola
dei Mercanti.
Lors de sa présence à Venise il rencontre Posy Chisholm Feick,
Présidente du directoire de la PGC Peggy Guggenheim collection de
Venise. En juillet, madame Chisholm Feick convie l’ensemble des membres
de la Fondation Guggenheim de New York à un vernissage privé où elle
présente Marc Ash.
L’ensemble des médias italiens couvre l’exposition, notamment la RAI qui
ouvre son journal télévisé de 20 heures en présentant l’exposition de
Marc Ash.
La presse souligne que cette installation fait partie des 7 expositions
majeures à voir sur les 380 produites à Venise durant le biennale.
Il Giornale Dell’Arte la sélectionne parmi les expositions du moment à
voir dans le monde.
Le Figaro Magazine reproduit l’une de ses oeuvres sur une double page.
Il expose parallèlement à la Galleria Blu de Milan & chez Silvana
Mainardis de Venise qui le représente.
En septembre 2003, il fait parti du groupe
d’artistes retenu pour représenter la France à la biennale de Pékin.
En octobre 2003, durant son séjour à New-York, il rencontre Walter Moos,
célèbre galeriste de Toronto qui s’engage à diffuser sa peinture au
Canada. Walter Moos est également présent à Zurich.
En novembre Marc Ash reçoit un courrier du Président de la République
italienne qui le félicite pour son travail et de la présentation de «
Tous ensemble » au Palazzo Réale.
En avril et mai 2004, son installation « Tous ensemble » est produite au
Musée du Circulo de Bellas Artes de Madrid. Simultanément, la galerie
Blanca Soto expose ses nouvelles créations.
En juin, il expose à la Fundacion Arte y Gastronomia de Madrid une
collection de collage et une installation inédite se rapportant au monde
du vin.
En juillet, Marc Ash expose au Musée d’Art Moderne d’Almeria en Espagne.
En octobre 2004 Walter Moos Gallery de Toronto accueille à son tour son
installation « Tous ensemble » Parallèlement à cet évènement, il expose
à la XeXe Gallery une collection d’œuvres récentes.
Présenté par la Galleria Blu de Milan, Marc Ash montre son travail à
Turin en novembre à la foire d’art contemporain ARTISSIMA, ainsi qu’à
MIART de Milan.
En décembre, 12 œuvres majeures sont exposés à la Galerie Samuel Lallouz
de Montréal.
En février 2005, il présente une nouvelle collection à la Galerie
Rochane à Beyrouth.
En septembre 2005, il expose à New York chez Remy Toledo Gallery en
plein cœur de Chelsea. Cette exposition est produite grâce au soutien de
Madame Posy Feick, Présidente de la fondation Guggenheim de New York.
En mars 2006 la Galleria Blu et Il Torchio Costantini l’expose à Art
Bologna. En avril, une sélection de la « black collection » est
présentée à MIART de Milan.
En octobre 2006 Marc Ash est invité par American Express. Il présente à
cet effet et pour la première fois les études de « Tous ensemble »
En novembre 2006 la Galerie Il Torchio Costantini de Milan lui consacre
une exposition personnelle. Sa nouvelle œuvre s’intitule « Scripta
manent » Une partie de ce travail est également présentée à la foire
d’art contemporain de Padova ainsi qu’à Art Strasbourg.
En avril 2007, il présente 15 œuvres et diverses installations inédites
dont « Industrie du crime » dans un espace publique à Paris « les
Commines » exposition organisée par Moon Star Fine Arts Advisors, agent
de Marc Ash. L’œuvre de Marc fût filmée et diffusée sur Paris Première.
Quelques jours plus tard l’animateur / producteur Ariel Wizman s’invite
dans son atelier pour l’interviewer.
En décembre 2007 il expose 2 collections dont les études de « Tous
ensemble » à la New AF Gallery de Miami durant la période très active
d’Art Basel et Art Miami.
Parallèlement à cette exposition, le Florida Holocaust Museum de
Saint-Petersburg accueille le travail de Marc pour une période de 6
mois.
« Tous ensemble » sera ensuite présentée au Musée d’art Moderne de
Guadalajara au Mexique fin 2008.
La Trétyikov State Gallery de Moscou – second musée russe le plus
important après l’Ermitage de Saint-Petersbourg – a programmé une
exposition de Marc Ash pour 2009.

MARC ASH was born on November 30th, 1958 in Oran. He lives and works in
Paris, but he also travels all around the world to show his works and to
maintain a dialogue with collectors and art professionals.
Graduated in strategic marketing, he started his international
professional career in London in 1978. He then worked for a Brazilian
oil company and moved to Mauritania and Asia: this move fuelled his
creativity, absorbing the imaginary territory of his childhood. Marc Ash
has been painting since his very young age and the desert has always
been one of the central themes of his work.
In 1998, he definitively hung up his suit and ties and dedicated himself
to painting and rusting the metals he uses in his creations.
FRANCE 2, the leading public French TV covers the “Salon d’Automne” in
October 2000, and his works are noticed by some art critics. His
paintings are for the first time filmed and presented on the TV news.
In December 2000, Ash's works are presented in the prestigious Galleria
Blu in Milan. The Galleria Blu notably exhibits Basquiat, Burri,
Fontana, Kandinsky, Klein.
In June 2001, the Galleria Blu organises his first solo show in Italy.
Marc Ash's work becomes part of important collections in Italy.
During the Biennale di Venezia in 2001, Ash presents an important
collection of his paintings in a solo show, in a palace that was once
the Venice Art School. W.E.A. organises the exhibition and prints a
catalogue. The art critic Silvia Evangelisti calls Ash the leader of the
young «neo-materists».
In November 2001, he also presents a series of recent paintings at the
Galerie Bertin-Toublanc in Paris.
In February 2002, the Galerie Bertin-Toublanc in Paris invites him to
Art Strasbourg.
In May 2002, the Galleria Blu shows his work at several fairs and
exhibitions in Italy.
Throughout 2002, Marc Ash works on a project
dealing with intolerance called «Tous Ensemble» (All Together). He
produces more than 50 works: paintings, photos, sculptures and creations.
This installation takes the shape of a denouncement of violence and a
strong project to educate large populations, including children to
contemporary creation and to history through an artistic language, as
well as paying homage to all populations that have suffered and that are
still suffering all over the world.
In January 2003, the Museo del Palazzo Reale in Milan exhibits part of
this project. The Press, the critics and the public are unanimous in
their praise. During a press conference to present his work, the Mayor
of Milan Albertini, together with the French and Italian authorities,
publicly recognise the importance of his work.
Marc Ash is the first living artist to have his works exhibited at the
Palazzo Reale.
In June 2003, the entire installation of “Tous Ensemble” is presented in
Venice as part of the circuit of the 50th Biennale, overseen by the art
critic and journalist Enzo Di Martino. The exhibition of Ash's work is
hosted by the prestigious Scuola dei Mercanti.
During his stay in Venice, Ash meets Posy Chisholm Feick, President of
the Board of the PGC Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice. In July Mrs.
Chisholm Feick invites the members of the PGC to a private showing to
present Marc Ash.
Italian Media cover the show, especially the RAI, which opens its
evening news bulletin with a presentation of Marc Ash's show.
The Press stresses that this collection forms part of the 7 major
exhibitions that are a "must" in Venice during the Biennale with its
total of 380 events.
The «Giornale Dell’Arte» calls it one of the shows not to be missed in
the world today.
At the same time, Ash exhibits works at the Galleria Blu in Milan and
the Silvana Mainardis Gallery in Venice.
In September 2003, Ash is part of a group of
international artists representing France at the Beijing Biennial.
In October 2003, during a visit to New York, Ash meets Walter Moos, the
famous gallery owner from Toronto, who immediately starts promoting his
work in Canada. Walter Moos also operates in Zurich.
In November, Marc Ash receives a letter from the President of the
Italian Republic congratulating him on his work and the presentation of
“Tous Ensemble” in Italy.
In April and May 2004, “Tous Ensemble” is shown at the Museo Circulo de
Bellas Artes in Madrid. At the same time, the Blanca Soto Gallery shows
his latest creations.
In July, Marc Ash's works are shown at the Museo d’Arte Moderna in
Almeria, Spain.
In October 2004 the Walter Moos Gallery in Toronto exhibits «Tous
Ensemble». At the same time, several more recent works are shown at the
XeXe Gallery.
Marc Ash appears at the ARTISSIMA exhibition of contemporary art in
Turin (5th-7th November 2004) and then at the Fiera di Milano. His works
are presented by the Galleria Blu of Milan.
In September 2005, Marc Ash presents a solo-show at the Remy Toledo
Gallery in New York, at the heart of Chelsea. The exceptional exhibition
of his works also includes the installation “Tous Ensemble”. This
exhibition is sponsored by Posy Feick, President of the Board of the
Peggy Guggenheim Collection. In January 2006 some of these works are
also shown at the Art Miami fair.
In March 2006, Marc Ash presents his works at Arte Bologna with Galleria
Blu and Galleria Il Torchio. He is also present at MIART, Milan’s
international art fair.
In November 2006, Marc Ash presents a solo-show at Galleria Il Torchio –
Costantini called “Scripta Manent”. Some pieces of this exhibition are
also shown at Arte Padova in Italy, and Art Strasbourg in France.
In October 2006, Marc Ash hosts a private exhibition for American
Express to present his works to selected card members, with an
exceptional exhibition of the “Tous Ensemble” studies in France.
In April 2007, Marc Ash presents 15 new paintings, including several
installations in a public exhibition at “Espace Commines”, in Paris,
organised by MoonStar Fine Arts Advisors who acts as international
agents for Marc Ash. This exhibition has received the visit of many art
critics, press professionals and international collectors. Marc Ash’s
pieces have been shown on Paris Premiere, French TV channel.
In December 2007, Marc Ash presents his works and the original studies
of “Tous Ensemble” at the Alliance Française in Miami, during the very
active period of Art Basel and Art Miami.
The Florida Holocaust Museum in Saint-Petersburg, Florida hosts the
original studies of “Tous Ensemble” starting December 22, for six months.
“Tous Ensemble” and other works will then be hosted by the Guadalajara
Museum of Modern Art in Mexico at the end of 2008.
The Trétyakov Gallery of Moscow - the second most important museum in
Russia after the Hermitage in St. Petersburg - has also programmed to
show Marc Ash in 2009.
He is planning several personal exhibitions all over the world, notably
in Milan, Paris, Mexico and Russia.
